Optimizing the Riding Experience: Cincoze Industrial PC Powers Smart Bus PIDS
Cincoze’s customer, responsible for managing hundreds of bus routes and thousands of city buses on the U.S. East Coast, wanted to introduce a Passenger Information Display System (PIDS) to tackle their complex bus network challenges and improve customer convenience. They selected the Cincoze DX-1000 industrial PC for the in-vehicle PIDS system. It connects to the traffic control center to display up-to-date route information, departure times, arrival times, real-time weather and temperature, and advertisements. These enhancements improved the riding experience and optimized operational efficiency and services.
Product Requirements
Installation Restrictions and Task Requirements
The PIDS computer, installed under the bus seat or on the roof, must receive, process, and display real-time data and multimedia content. A compact and powerful industrial PC is needed to ensure real-time updates and accurate traffic information display.
Wireless and GNSS
The PIDS needs to receive real-time traffic data from the traffic control center over the wireless network, including route data, and departure and arrival times at each station. Tracking bus locations through GNSS is necessary to ensure passengers receive accurate arrival information.
Reliability and Environmental Adaptability
City buses are a year-round public transportation system, whether it’s hot summer, humid rainstorms, or cold, snowy days. Drastic changes in temperature and continuous vibrations, while the vehicle is moving, are highly challenging conditions for any computer.
Why Cincoze?
Powerful and Compact
The Cincoze DX-1000 is a high-performance industrial PC that measures only 242 x 174 x 77 mm. It supports 7th/6th generation Intel® Xeon® and Core™ processors and up to 64GB of memory, providing excellent computing performance. The latest DX-1200 has a 13th/12th generation (Raptor Lake-S / Alder Lake-S) Intel® Core™ processor, which further enhances computing performance and can meet different performance needs.
Rich Vehicle-specific Functions
The DX-1000 has four Mini-PCIe slots and SIM card slots, supports WIFI, GNSS, 4G, and Bluetooth technology, can instantly receive the latest traffic, weather, and route data, and can accurately determine the bus’s location. The DX-1000 also supports the IGN (Power Ignition Sensing) function through a dedicated module, which protects the computer in automotive applications and avoids starting when the voltage is unstable. This function can also set a delayed shutdown time to prevent damage to the computer or data when the vehicle suddenly stalls.
Rugged Reliability
Safety and reliability are the primary considerations for smart transportation systems. The rugged design features of the DX-1000 include wide operating temperature range (-40°C - 70°C) and wide voltage input (9 - 48 VDC); overvoltage, overcurrent and ESD protection; and shock and vibration resistance up to 50G/5G to face road vibrations. The DX-1000 has an E-mark certification that assures its reliability in automotive applications.
Easy Maintenance
To provide the easiest maintenance and improve user convenience, the DX-1000 has settings and switches, including reset, clear CMOS, AT/ATX selection, and SIM card slots, on the front panel maintenance area for easy operation and maintenance.
